BBC Radio One is recording a documentary about THE QUEEN IS DEAD today.
Not sure when it will be broadcast as I never listen to Radio 1.

Those younger members of Solo might hear about it inbetween the hip-hop and other 'cool' phat choons.

Later.

Christ, I can just imagine the car crash this will be!
How to relate/explain 'The Queen Is Dead' to the Radio1 audience of foeti...
Presented by 'Nihal' and Reggie Yates no doubt

Laters....innit.

At least they are telling the yoofs of today about it. Maybe it will convert someone, and for that, our license fee has been appropriately spent.

Precisely. For everything that we may detest Radio 1 for, at least they are doing this. It might awaken some of the sheep that follow todays music.

it's really not such a big deal.
Radio 1 still play plenty of indie music but only stuff which they consider to be 'cool'.
ancient Smiths songs are, as far as yoof media (such as R1) is concerned, incredibly cool - modern day Morrissey songs are about as far from cool as it is possible to get.
simples!

Seeing the infantile nonsense that is Jay-Ziz beside The Queen Is Dead is enough to make one puke.

'The Black Album' is actually very good. I'd be surprised if anybody who appreciates Morrissey's lyrics would consider it "nonsense" if they actually listened to it.

I see what you mean...

Uhh, this feel right right here Quik
It's like it's 'sposed to happen this one right here
Young! God damn..
.. let me justify my thug on this one right here

[Verse One: Jay-Z]
It goes one o'clock, two o'clock, three o'clock rock
Five six seven o'clock, eight o'clock rock
Eleven o'clock, twelve o'clock, the party bout to pop
Then - Roc-A-Fella y'all, it's your boy S. Dot
And I ain't never been to jail; I ain't never pay a nigga
to do no dirt for me I was scared to do myself
I will never tell even if it means sittin in a cell
I ain't never ran, never will
I ain't never been smacked; a nigga better keep his hands
to himself or get clapped for what's under that man's belt

If, hypothetically speaking, I wanted to make the argument that Morrissey's lyrics are "nonsense" I could very easily pick out a verse from one of his lower quality songs and flag it up out of context. There are countless examples of songs in which Jay-Z raps about important and relevant subjects and countless examples of verses which are heavily poetic.

Kaz is absolutely right here.

But we shouldn't be upset about Zane's love of Jigga. It's the infatuation with Fatboy Slim that is the most worrying. The days when that cretin ruled popular media with his painful horrors promoted as songs will never leave me. I hate Fatboy Slim. Hate. Despise. Loathe.

Another lyrical gem from another track off an album that I am told is a "classic" and "very good"..

You're now tuned into the muh'f***in greatest
Turn the music up in the headphones
Tim, you can go and brush your shoulder off nigga
I got you, yeah

[Chorus: Jay-Z]
If you feelin like a pimp nigga, go and brush your shoulders off
Ladies is pimps too, go and brush your shoulders off
Niggaz is crazy baby, don't forget that boy told you
Get, that, dirt off your shoulder

[Verse One]
I probably owe it to y'all, proud to be locked by the force
Tryin to hustle some things, that go with the Porsche
Feelin no remorse, feelin like my hand was forced
Middle finger to the law, nigga grip'n my balls
All the ladies they love me, from the bleachers they screamin
All the ballers is bouncin they like the way I be leanin
All the rappers be hatin, off the track that I'm makin
But all the hustlers they love it just to see one of us make it
Came from the bottom the bottom, to the top of the pots
Nigga London, Japan and I'm straight off the block
Like a running back, get it man, I'm straight off the block
I can run it back nigga cause I'm straight with the Roc

:squiffy:

Nah, I've seen and heard enough. If I were to continue the discussion it would be in off-topic, as there is little evidence of musicality in those words and little evidence of music in the sounds that accompany them.

Oh for heaven's sake, Jay-Z's album is in the same list as The Queen Is Dead. Stop telling users what to do.

Sheesh.
