Re: 7" Vinyl Boxset

Is anyone else other than me getting a little bit excited about this release? Say what you like about 'reissue, repackage, repackage' (blah blah blah) but with Morrissey/Marr involvement (especially with the remastering after the dodgy job done on Very Best Of), decent tracks (2 disc set anyway) and potentially a sexy booklet, what's not to like?

PS. iTunes has 3 bonus tracks advertised, but I can only see 2 on the track listing: Rubber Ring and The Draize Train (woo!)

PPS. I'm told that the 2 disc set has leaked.

I'll get it as soon as I can find it less than full price. I have no other post-split compilations, but this one looks pretty worth having.

Re: smiths release

somewher ein ireland theres a school that should be shut down and some teachers fired for allowing you to graduate .

No no no. It should read as follows.

Somewhere in Ireland there's a School etc. etc.

Now stand in the corner.:D

johnny's guitar seems more jangly and higher up in the mix and morrissey's scrumptious warblings to close seem more breathy & echoey-ish but maybe my in-car stereo is better than my mono ITT turntable! plays 3.15

so the release will be tomorrow in the UK according to the hmv site, yes?
not for the rest of europe ?
as i mentioned elsewhere the last morrisseysingles as well as albums of other artists(who release a record on a MONDAY) are normally avaiable earlier(FRIDAY) in germany
(as friday ans not monday is the official release day here for a few years now)
bu thast doesnt apply to to "the sound of the smiths " on the warnersite they state 21th of november for germany as the release date(amazon germany as well..)

If you pre-ordered, it has been delivered I suppose.

The Sound of The Smiths - really sounds improved....

... downloaded today from the Nokia Music Store (all free downloads with my new phone!)...

I have to say the remixing makes a massive difference. It may be that my old CD's have gone a bit off, but the songs sound so much more "alive" and the sound is less of a mush.

Maybe it's my hearing in older age, but I can definately notice a positive improvement on these tracks versus the originals.

I've downloaded the iTunes bonus tracks while waiting for my CDs to arrive, and they do indeed sound fantastic. Having Johnny helping out has made a big difference.

I've still not yet decided if i'm going to buy it, what say you? I guess I'm a floater for want of a better term.

Just went out and bought the double CD when I said I wouldn't. :D

Ended up getting both versions, cursing the collector in me! I do like it, there is a definite improvement in the sound quality. Now I need to save for Jan-March!

It's a shame that they've put the wrong version of 'Stretch Out And Wait' on the deluxe edition. They've used the one from 'World Won't Listen', even though the booklet says it's the b-side of 'Shakespeare's Sister'. And also the booklet gets some of the cat.no.'s wrong, with the wrong prefixes (RH instead of RT).

Sad that Rhino don't seem to take very much pride in their projects these days......

isnt the other version of it (the one from the bside of shakespeare`s sister you asked for)on louder than bombs?
I think so

7digital.com currently have the single disc version as a download on offer for £5.

Three grumbles - the wrong version of Stretch Out as pointed out above, Last Night I Dreamt has the intro missing and I think it sounds so weird without that, and why include tracks like The Queen Is Dead, Vicar In A Tutu etc on the rarities disc?

Apart from that it sounds excellent. Some tracks do sound quite different, you can hear background stuff that you couldn't before.

A decent enough set but it could have been so much better.
