Consider for a moment masturbation. Hey, that was too long a moment. It is clearly a sexual activity but I would think that few virgins or celibates would consider it an end to their status. So celibacy and virginity seem to refer specifically to lack of sexual contact with other people. If we speak of virginity and celibacy as being "virtuous", it is not the sexual gratification that we are admonishing but sex specifically with others. The message appears to be enjoy your own body but not someone else's.
