Think of it this way, it's like a test. He's saying, "C'mon. Jump up here. See if you can do it." But it's a test he wants you to fail because he wants to see the force that keeps him safe to remind him (because maybe he's forgetful) that he doesn't walk alone. So by choosing not to succomb to his whim, you've chosen wisely and I'm sure he admires you for not being caught in his private fantasy snares.
