Reality Check

Guest
so many of you know that i am an ex-mormon. anyway, somehow the mormons at my uni got hold of my email address. i'm assuming they checked their membership records against the school's admissions records. that seems kind of shady to me. anyway, they added me to some listserve halfway through the school year. at first, i ignored the emails i got, but then one day (maybe i was pms-ing), i replied to one and said they had better take me off. they sent me an email assuring me that they would. anyway, the emails stopped for like a couple weeks and then they started back up again. i ignored them again, but, well i'm in a pissy mood, and i got another email from them a day or two ago. i just let it sit there in my mail box and it was really pissing me off, so i sent them this lovely email. can you tell it was partly inspired by the goings on at morrissey-solo? (by the way, this personal victory has been slightly marred by the realization that i accidentally sent it like five times. oops.) here it is:

I really don't mean to be rude, but why was I not
taken off of this mailing list? Do I really have to
complain to school authorities or call the ACLU or
something? As I said before, I consider it a huge
invasion of privacy that the church obtained my email
address and distributed it without my permission. See,
I know someone must have checked the school's
admissions records against the church's membership
records. Too bad they didn't do a more thorough job
and realize that I have not been to church in years.
Here's a hint, people: THAT MEANS I'M NOT INTERESTED.
So anyway, I'm not really busy this summer and I'd
love to have a lawsuit to keep me occupied, so keep
this up and you'll get one. You might just want to
address your tithing envelopes to me from now on. In
all seriousness, just take me off the damn list.

Thanks!

I know how you feel

Somehow, those freaks from The Church of Scientology got my address and started bombarding me with letters and leaflets. I politely wrote to them and told them I was not interested. Still the crap came through my letterbox.
Then I wrote them a firmer letter saying I really was fed-up of it. They still didn't take any notice.

In the end I ended up writing to them as my mum to tell them I had been killed in an accident and would they please stop writing to me as it was causing the familt great distress!!

And still the feckers sent me stuff.

These religious groups are like the mafia. Perhaps worse.

In the end I moved house (not because of the junk mail) so they couldn't get at me!! If you really wanna piss someone off though, you could sign them up to the Scientolgists. Maybe that's what someone did to me

Re: I know how you feel

There is something called Junk Mail Filter, or Block Sender Option.

Re: I know how you feel

For Mindy, yes. But Royal Mail mail has no such facility. Maybe that's why they are losing money...

Sorry, meant for Reality Check.
But you can just throw it in the bin, like I do with my electricity bills

Its like Columbia House. Once those people get your name they never leave you alone.

Well done. If i get Mormons or Jehovah Witnesses at my door I tell them I am a Roman Catholic.
I have learned that has the same effect as saying I am a Satanist so they leave me alone:)

Good idea.Although I do enjoy the hilarious "Watchtower" magazines they give out.

Re: I know how you feel

good suggestion, but my yahoo email address makes it a little tough. its filters are really unreliable. for instance, i get maybe 20 junk emails a day in my "bulk" folder, but i still get probably half that in my regular folder. they just slip by. i used to be able to block individual email-ers, but they changed the way you have to do it and i'm still trying to figure it out. in any case, once i do figure it out, i can block the listserve, but then i'd still have to block several hundred people who now have my email address whose list i am apparently on now.

thanks johnny. they got really offended, it looks like. i got several emails this morning ranging from "oops, sorry" to "shut up. don't be such a baby." i don't think they realize that i was only half joking about the lawsuit thing. hence the "but seriously..." which suggests that the preceding statements were meant in jest. there's a reason the word mormon is so close to moron. by the way, i know people who've told jehovah's witnesses that they're mormons. they claim it gets rid of them pretty fast. when the jw's don't even wanna know you, you must suck!

Re: I know how you feel

ugh. scientology is horrible. i'm glad you escaped. you know, there are rumors that l. ron started that religion on a 50 dollar bet. apparently, a friend said, "i bet you can't start your own religion." also, l. ron was a huge hypocrite. i did some reading up on this, and just about everything that is against the scientologist religion, he did. a lot.

Who or what is I. ron???

All along the Watchtower

I've heard that telling the Jovos you're a Mormon only makes them more determined. They REALLY want to save you. I have NO IDEA about what either believe in and I am enriched by my ignorance.

Re: All along the Watchtower
