Morrissey and Merkel

An article by Nadra Kareen on racerelations.about.com noting a trend in Europe deriding the handling of immigration:

"...Moreover, Germany isn't the only Western European country where people seem to resist immigrants. France has had its own problems dealing with immigrants from the Middle East and Africa, even leading to riots in the Parisian suburbs. In Italy, African soccer players have been harassed and pelted with bananas because of their race. And British singer Morrissey sparked outrage after reportedly telling a music magazine that he no longer resides in the UK because of the "immigration explosion" there. He said that the England of his youth was just "a memory now."...

'We're going to the national, oh...'

One thing that gets under my craw is Americans who generalise about "Europeans", or better still, polemicize against a "European view", as if such a thing existed.

Multiculturalism in the United States has given rise to some of the most cutting edge innovations in music, art and literature. In addition, without the labor of immigrants, America would not have become the superpower it is today.

No Shit Nadra. In fact, without the labor of immigrants, The United States wouldn't have existed at all.

Given this, perhaps Europeans should consider that a Germany for Germans only or an England for the English only would disadvantage these countries rather than benefit them.

Given this, perhaps you should consider that "Europenas" is a useless abstraction in this context, and that Germany and England isn't actually in a position comparable to the American historical experience.

cheers

so those who generalize about europe/or seeing europe as one:
hmm maybe one should consider the fact of the size of america and many dont have to travel to outside the country (to europe)to get either the beach or snow. and if they look on map of europe or get the infos through TV( about it.

then it appears to be "one" many mayn little countries, while the differences next to the diff languages couldnt be bigger to the neighbouring countries around.. there is always a trying of unite the people of europe more through some actions but i still dont feel "european". and that didnt change with the euro.
with england its even more different as its not continental europe...and their view to continental europe might /or is prob even more different.
